TWO goals in six second-half minutes saw Oxford City book their place in the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Nana Owusu’s penalty and a superb individual strike from Zac McEachran earned Mark Jones’s side a 2-0 victory over Hampton & Richmond Borough at Court Place Farm on Saturday.

It sees them in today’s draw having reached this stage of the competition for the third successive season.

There was little between the teams early on, Reece Beckles-Richards firing wide for City and Jake Gray doing likewise for the away side.

The returning Craig King was then alert to deny Hampton’s Tyrone Lewthwaite when he burst through.

The visitors should have gone ahead just before the half-hour when Dean Inman had a free header, but his effort went across the face of goal.

City had an escape on the stroke of half-time when Lewthwaite’s header beat King, but Josh Ashby bundled clear on the line.

Some strong words from Jones at the break had the desired effect with the hosts emerging from the interval a different team.

They went ahead on 55 minutes when a cross from McEachran hit the arm of Ryan Hill and referee Isaac Searle pointed to the spot on the advice of his assistant.

Owusu made no mistake, rifling his effort down the centre of the goal.

Ashby went close just 90 seconds later, before City did double their advantage with a moment of magic.

McEachran collected the ball outside the area but weaved past a number of challenges before slotting home into the bottom corner.

Hampton did show a good response to going 2-0 behind, however, creating two openings in the next five minutes.

Lewthwaite sliced an effort off target from close range before Gray blazed over the bar in a similar position.

King was called upon to produce a fine save from Inman with 15 minutes to play, the keeper diving to keep out the goalbound strike.

Substitute Stefan Brown almost made it 3-0 late on from a quick break, but although he was denied, City had done enough to book their place in the next round.
