DARREN Elliott’s contribution to ice hockey in the county has earned him a place on the shortlist for the 2019 Oxfordshire Sports Awards.

The Oxford City Stars stalwart called time on his career last season after spending 27 of his 29 years at Oxpens.

However, he faces stiff competition to land the top accolade, with two national champions providing tough opponents.

Tumbler Ben Goodall has enjoyed a superb year, winning the British qualifiers, English title and last week landed the British Championships.

His victory extended a remarkable two-year unbeaten domestic record.

Taekwondo star Chris Dudman completes the shortlist.

He has won multiple gold medals at national level and is now ranked No 5 in the world.

Alice Hopkins, Chloe Kiddie and Manon Bradley battle it out for the sportswoman accolade.

Athlete Hopkins, 20, earned a call-up to the Great Britain squad for the first time.

She represented her country in the Indoor Combined Events International match in January before competing in the European Under 23 Championships having retained her national title.

Bradley is a world record-holding powerlifter, multiple world champion and the first female president of the British drug-free powerlifting association.

Kiddie won gold at the single freestyle class 2 National Paradance Championships.

The West Oxfordshire Wheelchair member had previously finished runner-up in the category for the last three years.

The 13th Oxfordshire Sport Awards, will take place on Friday, November 15 at the MINI Plant in Oxford.

They celebrate the best of elite and community sport and activity across the county.

Tickets are now on sale and can be bought from activeoxfordshire.org.
