CAMERON Brannagan plans to shoot on sight for Oxford United today as he bids to continue his hot streak in front of goal.

The midfielder is the only player in the squad to score more than once this campaign, bagging his fourth goal of the season in midweek.

It is just two short of his tally for the whole of last season and means his spirits are high ahead of this afternoon’s visit to Fleetwood Town.

He said: “Once you score one, you get a bit of confidence and it seems like everything you hit goes in.

“I’m just going to keep getting in the right positions and shooting. Hopefully I can keep scoring goals.

“I’m not going to set a target of ten or 12 this season, I’ll just be trying to score as many as I can.”

Brannagan also has a role at the other end of the pitch, with United in desperate need of improving a defensive record which is the third worst in Sky Bet League One.

And the 23-year-old is well aware Fleetwood will be looking to cash in if the visitors overstretch themselves in possession.

He said: “We’ve been watching them and you can see they work off their shape very well.

“They let you have the ball and then once you lose it they’re very good at counter-attacking.

“We have to be prepared for that and maybe if we do need to make a foul then we’ll do it.

“I think because we have so much of the ball you’re always vulnerable on the counter.

“We need to keep the door locked.”

Ben Woodburn and Mark Sykes are away with Wales and Northern Ireland respectively, while Tariqe Fosu will be assessed over a tight hamstring.

Matty Taylor (groin) and George Thorne (calf) are definitely ruled out, but Shandon Baptiste and Dan Agyei will be involved after starting on Tuesday.

Fleetwood are likely to be without Wes Burns (shin), while fellow former U’s loanee Conor McAleny (ankle) and midfielder Jack Sowerby (leg) are doubts.

Centre half Harry Souttar is on international duty with Australia, but new loan signing Jimmy Dunne is in contention to make his debut.
