KARL Robinson is not ruling out another addition to the Oxford United squad before the transfer deadline – but it would have to be funded by departures.

The summer window closes at 5pm on Monday and the U’s head coach would be content if nothing happened in the next three days.

But last-minute opportunities are likely to emerge which could strengthen the squad.

Robinson admitted United may do some business, although it depended on deals going in the opposite direction.

He said: “We have a perfect scenario and a not-so perfect scenario.

“But equally if everything stood still I don’t think we’d be overly disappointed if nothing materialises.

“Manoeuvring players out has to support any incomings.

“I don’t think it would be right to do anything else. I said that to the chairman at the beginning.

“We can’t ridiculously blow our budget.

“If we have to stick where we are it allows us to hold something back for January as well.”

If there was scope for an addition, it would likely be a pacy winger and there are two senior players definitely available for moves away from the club.

Just after the end of last season Robinson made it clear a switch further north for Tony McMahon would suit all parties.

Although the full back returned in pre-season to fight for a place in the side, he has not been included in any matchday squads this season.

And last week the U’s boss revealed a half-season loan to a Sky Bet League Two club was seen as the best option for Mark Sykes’s development.

It is thought a couple of sides have shown an interest in a deal.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international started Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup tie with Millwall, scoring his first goal for the club to trigger an unlikely comeback.

Robinson said before the game he had picked the midfielder to see if he could prove a point.

When asked afterwards whether the goal had gone some way to doing that, the head coach did not go into details.

He said: “Little things like that will stay with me, but there’s still aspects that I think could be so much better in a lot of people’s games and he’s one of them.”
