THE Oxfordshire Sports Awards are back for 2019.

And from today you can nominate those individuals or teams who you feel deserve recognition for their work and achievements over the past 12 months.

The 13th year of the awards will take place at the MINI Plant in Cowley on Friday, November 15.

The event will once again bring together guests and short-listed nominees from across the county for an evening of celebration, marking their contribution to sport in Oxfordshire.

With the Oxfordshire Sports and Physical Activity organisation undergoing a big transition into a new independent charity working to promote physical activity and sport across the county last September, the awards were unable to take place in 2018.

However, Active Oxfordshire, the newly-founded

charity, was determined to reinstate the revamped event into the county’s sporting calender, with the Oxford Mail once again giving their backing as one of the main sponsors.

Paul Brivio, Chief Executive of Active Oxfordshire said, “We are delighted to continue the rich history of this event.

“With the support of the Oxford Mail, BBC Oxford and a number of other sponsors, the event will showcase all that is positive about sport and physical activity.”

He added: “Off the back of an incredible summer of sport, there is much to celebrate.

“Sport, and physical activity has physical, mental, social and economic benefits for individuals and communities.

“At Active Oxfordshire we are passionate about using sport and activity – including the inspirational stories from these awards to empower all Oxfordshire residents to move more.”

As well as the 12 awards, guests on the night will hear a special presentation from Mark England OBE, the Chef de Mission for Team GB at the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Nominations are now open across all categories, covering elite level sport to community sessions that help people get active.

Shortlists will be made up from those put forward by others, so visit activeoxfordshire.org/oxfordshire-sport-awards to have your say.

Nominations will close on Friday, September 20.
