OXFORD City boss Mark Jones praised his players’ character as they picked up their first point in midweek.
After a 3-0 opening day reverse, the side came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw at Chippenham Town as they got up and running in Vanarama National League South.
Jones, who takes his side to Eastbourne Borough tomorrow, was full of praise for his players.
He said: “I was really pleased with the reaction.
“Saturday’s result was obviously not good, but we made the decision to give the boys the opportunity to put things right, and they did just that.
“It was a much better performance, we showed more urgency and intensity, and a point was the least we deserved.”
Jones singled out the performance of summer signing Nana Owusu, who has looked lively in both games.
“He’s fitted in well and looks a good prospect,” said the City boss.
“With Zac McEachran still getting back to full fitness, it’s good we have some options in midfield, particularly as August is such a tough month with eight games.”
Jones names an unchanged squad for tomorrow’s trip to Sussex, and although pleased with the draw at Chippenham, insists that there is a lot of work still to do.
“I think if we’d lost in midweek, it would have been harsh on us. But this is a point to build on, and hopefully the boys have quickly realised, if they apply themselves, we are good enough to pick up good results.
TOMORROW’S TEAM
Oxford City (v Eastbourne Borough, away): from King, Jones, Jefford, Ashby, Oastler, Wiltshire, Fleet, Brown, Self, Rowe, Tapp, Owusu, McEachran, Moore-Azille, Fasanmade, Caro.
