JOE Dale believes Cumnor have all the attributes to put up a bold show in the Cricketer Village Cup.

The Cherwell League Division 1 side travel to Binfield on Sunday in the first national round, having won through the Oxfordshire section.

The combination of a settled line-up and contributions from throughout the side, most notably in a thrilling win over Horspath in an early tie, have given Dale hope that Cumnor have what it takes.

“It’s been an exciting journey for us so far,” the club captain said.

“We snatched victory from the jaws of defeat when our last pair put on 42 to beat Horspath by one wicket, but other than that we have played pretty well in each game.

“I think it helps that probably eight of our team have played in every round.”

He added: “We have got really good strength in depth.

“Our top order have scored well – I think three different players have hit hundreds in the competition – but when we have needed them, the lower order have chipped in with valuable runs.

“We have got a few seamers, but also have three or four spinners who can bowl eight overs if we need them too, so it’s a big positive.”

A trip to the Berkshire winners is unknown territory for Dale.

But with a large number of travelling supporters expected to make the short trip, he believes Cumnor have nothing to fear.

“I have never been to Binfield, but there is definitely a home advantage in this competition,” he said.

“If you know the pitch and the ground it does help.

“But we have both chased and set successfully this season, so have shown we can do either side of the game.

“We should have a good crowd there from the village, so hopefully we can give them something to cheer.”

Dale is on holiday and misses out, with George Setterfield also absent.

Will Bull and Toby Strong come in to the side.
