EMILY Allen’s goal ensured Oxford United Women’s campaign in the Southern Premier Division ended with a point.

The late header cancelled out Rebecca McGrother’s opener to secure a 1-1 draw at Loughborough Foxes.

It rubber-stamped a creditable fourth-place finish for Liam Gilbert’s side following major upheaval last summer.

United were on the back foot early on before getting a grip on a game where chances were at a premium.

The closest they came to scoring before the break was an Evie Gane header which flew just wide from Ellie Noble’s corner.

United looked the more dangerous side after half-time.

They had strong claims for a penalty in the 64th minute when Georgie Timms ran across a defender and looked to have been clipped from behind.

The assistant referee flagged for a spot kick, but was overruled by the referee.

Instead, Loughborough opened the scoring 12 minutes from time.

A lofted ball through the middle undid the U’s defence, allowing McGrother to break through and finish calmly past goalkeeper Lucy Thomas.

But the visitors found a response within two minutes.

Substitute Flo Fyfe worked half a yard of space out wide on the right before measuring a cross for Allen to head into the net.

Both sides pressed for a winner, but had to settle for a share of the spoils on the final day.
