HENLEY Hawks’ promotion push is over despite a commanding 50-21 win at Old Albanians.

Finishing second in National League 2 South – the division’s sole play-off spot – always looked unlikely for the south Oxfordshire club with Canterbury six points better off.

And the Kent side secured their place when beating Barnes 31-22.

Henley’s win has kept them in the hunt for third place heading into the final weekend, but Tonbridge Juddians have won more games and have a superior points difference.

David Hyde (2), Liam O’Neill (2), Xavier Andre, Ryan O’Neill, Scott White and Leo Webb crossed for Hawks against Old Albanians.

Liam O’Neill also kicked five conversions.

Chinnor lost 34-29 at Esher in National League 1.

The visitors trailed 15-0 after 14 minutes, but hit back through Ben Thomas’s try, Caolan Ryan converting.

Craig Holland also crossed for Chinnor, but they were 29-12 down at the break.

Oscar Heath’s 50th-minute try, Ryan converting, gave the Thame-based side hope.

But Esher crossed again to put the game beyond them.

They did pick up two bonus points, though, as Holland scored Chinnor’s fourth try, which was converted by Ryan, whose late penalty saw them finish within seven points.
