ARDLEY United are celebrating after winning the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup.
The north Oxfordshire side beat holders Binfield 4-3 on penalties last night after the tie at Fairford Town ended goalless after extra-time.
Both teams created a number of chances, but were unable to break the deadlock in the Uhlsport Hellenic League competition.
However, Ardley came out on top in the shoot-out after goalkeeper Christian Lawrence made a fine save high to his right, while Binfield hit a post with their deciding spot-kick.
The club’s Premier Division safety was also all-but secured as Longlevens, who occupy the final relegation spot, lost 2-1 at title-chasing Wantage Town.
Craig Adey’s side, who drew 0-0 with Holmer Green on Saturday, are now five points clear with two games remaining, but they have played a fixture more than some of their rivals.
