A STUNNING second-half blitz saw Oxford Hawks sign off their campaign at home in style with an 8-4 win over University of Birmingham.

The hosts had trailed 3-2 at the break, but roared back to claim a thumping victory to move second in the Men’s Conference West with one game remaining.

They were up against it in the first half, with the students 3-1 up before Jack Biggs scored his second goal from a penalty corner.

Hawks were a different proposition after the interval, though.

Biggs completed his hat-trick to level the scores, before Matt Wood’s double put them in charge.

Birmingham pulled one back to make it 5-4, but Biggs’s fourth strike gave them a cushion before Andy Watts hit a late double.

Zum Akhter’s hat-trick helped Oxford OBU seal promotion from MBBO Regional Division 1 with a 5-2 win against Eastcote.

James Rayward, who also scored an own goal, and Charlie Griffiths added to their tally.

Mid-table Witney claimed an impressive 2-1 home win over promotion-chasing PHC Chiswick.

Andrew Gosnell and Ben Moss were on target.

Relegated Wallingford were unable to hold on to a lead as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Amersham & Chalfont.

Connor Blakey fired the hosts in front, but the visitors scored three times in the last 20 minutes.

Bicester secured their MBBO Division 1 status with a 4-2 win over struggling Maidenhead.

Pete Bennett, Dave Sutcliffe, Jonny Reid and Ollie Hartley scored for the hosts.

Kate Lowe notched Oxford Hawks’ consolation as they lost 4-1 at home to Trojans in Investec Women’s Conference West.

Oxford were unable to pull off a shock against South Clubs Women’s League Division 2 leaders Guildford.

They lost 3-0, although Amy Litchfield had an equaliser disallowed before the home side scored twice in the latter stages.

Wallingford ladies made it three wins in a row in Trysports Three Counties League Premier 1 when beating Sonning 2nd 3-1 at home.

Claudia Oosterveld, Louise Conlon and Philippa Morris were on the scoresheet.
