ATHLETICS: Ben West has earned a Great Britain call-up after finishing fifth in the under 20 men’s race at the CAU Inter County Cross Country Championships.

Representing Oxfordshire, the Bicester resident and MK Distance Project runner, crossed just 21 seconds behind the winner.

West has been rewarded for his performance in Loughborough by being selected for the World Cross Country Championships in Denmark on March 30.

Meanwhile, eight Bicester AC members competed in Loughborough.

Hugo Jinks, Louis Bushby and Edward Jolliffe finished 112th, 201st and 241st respectively in the under 15 boys’ race.

Owen Stocker was 277th in the under 13 event, while Samuel Worfolk crossed 230th in the under 17 competition.

Anna Jolliffe crossed 179th and Lucy McGrath 231st in the under 13 girls, with Amelia Cox 189th in the under 15 race.

Elsewhere, Bicester’s David Kuester won four medals on his return from a knee replacement at the British Masters Championships at Lee Valley.

Competing in the 70+ age group, he took silver in the hammer and heavy hammer, as well as bronze in the shot and javelin.

WENDOVER FESTIVAL OF RUNNING 10K

Alchester AC: S Bowen 59.15.

DUATHLON: Bicester Tri duo Simon Emmerson and Stella Lever caught the eye at the Bedford Duathlon.

Emmerson was the sixth age 45-49 competitor home over the standard distance and qualified for next year’s European Triathlon Union championships.

Lever came third in the sprint, but missed out on qualification by just a few of seconds.
