GEORGE Smith’s treble fired Ardley United into the Perpetua Press Floodlit Cup quarter-finals with a 6-2 thumping of Thornbury Town.
Smith put the hosts ahead and Conor Harris’s penalty gave them a 2-0 lead at the break.
After Thornbury pulled a goal back, Ardley made the game safe with Smith (2), Dylan Woodall and Tom Moore on target, before the Gloucestershire side scored a late consolation.
It booked a place in the last eight, where Ardley will visit Thame Rangers next month.
It provided a response to Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Shrivenham which left Craig Adey’s side 15th in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.
This weekend they are away to Windsor.
