CONNOR Hull is savouring his place in Grove’s record books after racking up an impressive 53 points in one match.

The centre proved unstoppable as the side earned the biggest away win in their history when beating Bradford-on-Avon 88-7 in Southern Counties South.

Hull’s superb haul is a club record for points scored in a single game.

His total included a remarkable seven tries – levelling Duncan Nicholl’s tally from 1994 – and nine conversions.

The Grove star, who has now scored 159 points this season, was delighted.

“I didn’t know anything about the record beforehand,” said Hull.

“When I got my sixth try I remember Duncan saying to me (from the sidelines) ‘you know you’re one off getting my record’, so I thought I’m definitely striving to get another one.

“It was special, I’ve never scored that many before, three was my previous best, so seven is pretty impressive.”

He added: “I was delighted with the nine conversions as well, especially with it being pretty windy.

“The boys keep saying my best try was when I broke through five tackles and still managed to get up and put it down under the posts – I think that was my fifth.”

The result, Grove’s fourth win in a row, was made even more remarkable by the fact 69 of the 88 points were scored after the break.

Hull said: “If we’d performed like we did in the second half we could’ve made it ten times easier for ourselves.

“Yes, they were not the best team, but when a side is on form you just can’t stop them and that’s what happened.”
