JAMIE Hanson felt Oxford United’s goalless draw at Burton Albion summed up their season.
The visitors were the better side in every department and had got on top even before John Brayford’s dismissal in the 12th minute.
But despite having more than 20 efforts on the Brewers’ goal, United fell short and are still waiting for their first away win in Sky Bet League One this season.
With rivals winning elsewhere, the point was not enough to keep them out of the relegation zone.
And Hanson, who grew up in Burton, knew it was two points dropped.
He said: “We’ll go home a little bit disappointed, looking back and saying we should have taken three points instead of one.
“On a different day those ricochets fall in.
“I think that sums up our season at the minute, the ricochets are falling to the opposition and they clear it.
“That’s how it is when you’re down the bottom.
“I felt the goal was coming, but once again we weren’t able to take our chances.
“People will expect us to win when they’re down to ten men, but fair play to Burton they kept their shape and made it very hard for us to break them down.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t unlock the door, so everybody is disappointed.”
Despite the failure to score, United did look more of a threat with the pace of new signing Jerome Sinclair up front.
Hanson said: “We’ve had Jamie Mackie and I think he’s been brilliant in what he does.
“He’s horrible up there and doesn’t give defenders a rest.
“Jerome’s different, he’s quick and can get in behind defenders, so it’s nice to have a different option.”
