OXFORD City made it four straight victories and moved to the brink of the play-off places after a 3-1 victory over East Thurrock United last night.

Mark Jones’s side are now just a point off the top seven in Vanarama National League South.

They almost went ahead in the fourth minute, but Sam Nombe’s shot was blocked and Reece Fleet blazed over from the rebound.

City went ahead in the 17th minute when a through ball from Jack Self saw top scorer Kabongo Tshimanga beat the offside trap before rounding the visiting goalkeeper to tap into the empty net.

Nombe hit a post six minutes before half-time, but City were stunned within a minute of the second period when Harry Lee levelled, heading home off the inside of a post.

The hosts quickly restored their advantage though when Zac McEachran, making his 100th appearance, played in Tshimanga, who fired in on 49 minutes.

McEachran then made the points safe 14 minutes from time.

Oxford City: King, Jones, Wiltshire, Self, Godwin-Malife, Oastler, Nombe (Fasanmade 84), Fleet, Tshimanga, McEachran (Barrett 87), Otudeko (Bawling 72). Subs not used: Cano, Carter.

Banbury United made it six games unbeaten when they held high-flying Stourbridge to a 0-0 draw in the Evo-Stik South League Premier Central Division.

Mike Ford’s side were good value for their point against their visitors, who nonetheless go top of the table.

And Didcot Town closed in on the Division 1 Central play-off places after they won 4-2 at Aylesbury.

Lance Williams fired Andy Ballard’s side ahead on five minutes.

The hosts levelled through Martin Griggs, but Didcot went back in front when Luke Carnell headed home on the stroke of half-time.

Griggs bagged his second to level again before Davis Haule was sent off for Aylesbury.

Didcot wasted little time in taking advantage, Williams claiming his second of the night just two minutes after the red card.

Callum McNish wrapped up victory with No 4.
