TROY Bryan’s double helped fire Ardley United to their biggest victory of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division season.

Tobias London and Billy Gillett were also on target in the 4-0 success at struggling Longlevens.

Ardley skipper Tom Moore twice came close to opening the scoring in the first seven minutes as the Gloucestershire hosts were put on the back foot.

The only surprise was it took 20 minutes for Craig Adey’s side to take the lead.

Ed Smyllie’s backpass was intercepted by Bryan, who raced through to beat goalkeeper Ash Wintle.

Belatedly the home side came into the game and Ardley goalkeeper Christian Lawrence made an excellent save to repel Jonty Welch’s long-range effort.

It preserved a lead which was doubled before the break, as United capitalised on some more poor defending.

The visitors took a corner short and then found little resistance when the ball was delivered into the danger zone, London pouncing from close range.

Within ten minutes of the restart for the second half, the points were made safe.

Longlevens felt hard done by over a Mason Lewis challenge in the box which was adjudged to have been a foul, with Gillett despatching his effort from 12 yards to make it 3-0.

Lawrence made another excellent save to keep his clean sheet intact, before Ardley rubbed salt into the home side’s wounds.

Bryan doubled his tally for the afternoon when he reacted quickest to head home after Moore’s free-kick rebounded off the crossbar.

It was an emphatic way to end a five-game winless streak for Ardley, who climbed to 11th in the table.

This weekend they face a far stiffer test, when second-placed Brimscombe & Thrupp visit the Playing Fields.
