THE result was more important than the performance for head coach Kenny Redmond as Oxford City Stars made it five wins out of five.
A 4-1 victory at Haringey Huskies kept them second in the National League South Division 2, where the only sour note was an injury to Max Florey.
While Redmond was well aware his side were below par, there was a satisfaction the display was still good enough to take the points.
He said: “It was a scrappy game, and we didn’t hit the high standards we’ve set ourselves.
“But we did enough to win the game, which is obviously pleasing and keeps our run intact.
“Unfortunately we lost Max Florey during the first period to injury. He has a dislocated shoulder and will be out of action for three to four weeks.”
All the goals came in the second period at Alexandra Palace, which began with Tom Davis and James Buckingham dropping the gloves.
When play restarted, Dom Hopkins quickly opened the scoring with a cannon of a slap shot from the blue line.
Michal Oravec doubled the lead just before the half-hour mark.
After successfully killing a penalty, Stars made it 3-0 through Davis.
The victory was virtually assured when Josh Oliver added a fourth, although Sebastian Downing pulled a goal back late in the period.
It failed to spark a comeback, though, as the visitors held firm in the final 20 minutes.
Next up, they visit Bracknell Hornets on Saturday.
