TRIATHLON: Bicester’s Kimberley Pickett finished inside the top 500 when competing in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in South Africa.

Racing from Port Elizabeth, Pickett conquered the 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and

13.1-mile run in 5hrs 45mins 59secs to finish 475th out of 1,374.

Bicester’s Bob Gill and Simon Barnaby were successful at the St Neots Standard Distance European Qualifier.

The duo will now represent Britain at Weert in the Netherlands next year after high finishes in their age groups.

Barnaby was fifth overall, winning the 30-34 age group in a time of 2.08.34.

Gill was second in the 60-64 age group in 2.28.15.

There was disappointment for Bicester’s Jack Goodwin after he thought he had won the Reading Sprint Triathlon.

Goodwin had the fastest time of 1hr 11mins 18secs, until a penalty of 10 mins 19secs was added (due to a change of start time), pushing him down to 18th.
