A BATTLING display earned Oxford Hawks Ladies a notable goalless draw at home to leaders Trojans in the Investec Western Conference.

In the first half Hawks had a number of chances, with Lucy Stewart coming closest from a brilliantly-worked penalty corner routine.

The hosts went close without scoring after the break, while strong defending from Lex Thomas and Henri Gordon kept Trojans at bay.

Despite twice taking the lead, Witney had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Surbiton 2nd in Division 2 of the South Clubs League.

Skipper Katie Gatt put Witney ahead from a short corner, but the hosts levelled before the break.

In the second half, Witney went ahead when Claire Hands deflected Sunny Wallis’s shot into the net They kept Surbiton at bay until the final five minutes when a well-taken short corner found the net.

Oxford went down 2-1 away to Henley in Division 3A.

The hosts took an early 2-0 lead, but Laura Pickervance replied when deflecting in Beth Williamson’s shot just before half-time.

Despite some fine breaks from Kim Warman, Oxford could not score again.

l OXFORD reached the quarter-finals of the English Hockey Cup (Tier 2) with a convincing 4-1 victory away to Havant 2nd on Sunday.

Bubble Baddeley and Rachael Lammey put the visitors 2-0 up at the break.

Havant pulled a goal back in the second half, but further goals from Baddeley and Laura Smyth sealed Oxford’s place in the last eight.
