NORTH Leigh have bolstered their Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West play-off push with the signing of Jon Steedman.

The Millers are also hopeful of bringing in defender Matt Woodley from Didcot Town ahead of the weekend.

Full-back Steedman has signed for the Millers following his release from Banbury United, but is unavailable for tomorrow’s visit of Shortwood United.

“We needed more strength in depth and hopefully this will give us competition in some new areas of the pitch,” said manager Mark Gee.

“Jon brings plenty of experience to the side and is a consistent left-back, while Matt is a different player as he likes to go forward and his delivery is excellent.

“If you rolled the two together you would have the complete player, but with their different attributes they will hopefully give us different options for different types of matches.”

Defender Zak Westlake completes his three-match suspension this weekend, having missed the Millers’ 1-0 win at home to Oxford University Press in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, while forward Steve Davies is unavailable.

Eighteen-year-old goalkeeper Billy Collings will feature again for Didcot Town as they travel to Bridgwater Town.

He joined the Railwaymen on a short-term loan from Reading due to Leigh Bedwell’s suspension, making his debut in last week’s 1-0 defeat to Cinderford Town.

Boss Andy Ballard said: “He only met the lads for the first time on Saturday, but he came in and played his own game and it was like he’s always been with us.”

Bedwell remains suspended, while defender Jack Longford begins a four-match ban, but Harry Beer returns to the side.

Wantage Town boss Stuart Cattell hopes his side can move further away from the relegation zone with victory at Cinderford.

The Alfredians opened up an eight-point gap to the drop zone with a 3-2 win over fellow strugglers Burnham on Tuesday night, but Cattell has warned them not to ease off.

He said: “I think it’s good psychologically for the players to have that cushion, but we can’t rest on that.

“We need to try and pick up some more points between now and the end of the season and make sure we’re safe.”

Cattell himself is an injury doubt after picking up a knock to the ribs on Tuesday, while defender Tai Hulbert-Thomas is unavailable.

Midfielder Nick Thorne has left the club and signed for Uhlsport Hellenic League Division 1 West outfit Carterton.
