Diego Petriaggi bagged a brace as Ardley United got back to winning ways in Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division with a 6-0 home hammering of strugglers Shrivenham on Saturday.

The victory, their first of the year, ended a run of four straight league defeats and moved Kevin Brock’s side up to seventh in the table.

It also halted their barren home run, which had stretched back to December 13 when they beat Oxford City Nomads 3-2 at Oxford Road.

Having seen last weekend’s trip to Bracknell postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, Ardley were anxious to get a game under their belts.

And their fast start paid off when they took the lead after only two minutes.

A short corner was whipped in and striker Conor Ingram got in front of his man to head home.

The lead was doubled three minutes later.

Luke Ingram exchanged passses with Harry Brock before the former squared the ball across the box for Petriaggi, a summer capture from local rivals Kidlington, to drive home from ten yards.

After the break, Ardley kept up the pressure and it was no surprise when the hosts made it 3-0 on 59 minutes.

Substitute Kieran Scott, on for the injured Luke Ingram, broke forward before his drilled shot was deflected home by a defender.

Petrieggi completed his double on 65 minutes when he fastened on to a pass from skipper Ollie Stanbridge.

Stanbridge made it 5-0 on 73 minutes after Jon Gardner’s long-range shot was palmed out by Kevin Shales in the Shrivenham goal into his path.

Scott wrapped up the rout five minutes from time with Ardley’s sixth goal, robbing Shale of the ball before slotting home into an empty net.

Ardley are away to Newbury on Saturday and on Tuesday host Oxford City Nomads in the quarter-finals of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup.
