A BICESTER restaurant is one of just four in the county to have reached the finals of the British Curry Awards.

Jaflong, in Market Square, was one of about 2,700 restaurants nominated for just ten awards.

The awards, now in their fifth year, are seen as the “Oscars” of the curry restaurant industry in the UK Former News At Ten presenter Sir Trevor McDonald was due to present nine regional awards and one for the best newcomer, at a ceremony in London last week.

Jaflong owner Shakur Ali said he was delighted to reach the final of the competition.

He said: “We are very excited and will be going to the ceremony in London.

“It is great news for the restaurant and staff.”

Mr Ali is also celebrating appearing in the pages of the Bangladeshi Who’s Who for the second year running.

The entry gives a brief history of Mr Ali’s life and talks about the work he has done both in the UK and his native Bangladesh.
