A fire started inside a bin lorry in Oxfordshire after a lithium battery was set alight among the rubbish it was carrying.

Responding to the fire, fire crews from Bicester and Deddington were called to Fritwell on Thursday morning (March 28).

After putting the fire, described by the authorities as being "small", the crews followed the vehicle back to the lorry yard.

Pictures showed the firefighters putting out the rubbish on the floor with a hose reel.

Incident commander and crew manager at Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue, Alex Holbrook said: "This was a rubbish start to the day for the driver.

"He did the right thing by stopping the lorry and calling the fire and rescue service immediately which minimised the damage caused by the fire."
