A week dedicated to educating the public about crime has started with a focus on livestock.
South-East Week of Action has highlighted the offence, in which dogs chase or attack livestock, and which can cause immense distress, significant injury, and even death to the animals.
For farmers, these incidents are not only emotional but may also have substantial financial implications.
There is often an uptick in reports of such offences around this time of the year.
The law says allowing a dog to worry livestock is an offence, and those found guilty may face a maximum fine of £1000.
It's vital, therefore, that visitors to countryside areas keep their dogs on leads when near animals in fields to prevent such worrying episodes.
