Sean Woodcock, leader of the Labour group at Cherwell District Council, has announced that he will serve as Labour's parliamentary candidate for Banbury in the next general election.

In a public post, Mr Woodcock said: "It's a privilege to have been selected as the parliamentary candidate for Banbury Labour at the next general election. I'm grateful to members for putting their trust in me. I will work hard to earn it."

He also thanked individuals who have helped him run his political campaigns.

In addition to acting as leader of the Labour group at Cherwell District Council, Mr Woodcock is Labour's representative for the Banbury Grimsbury and Hightown ward.

He has served as a councillor since May 2012 and is now in his fourth term. 

Whilst a date for the next UK general election has not be announced, it will take place no later than January 28, 2025.
