Primary school children in Bicester had a creative writing session with a children’s author who then signed her book for them.

The children of Bure Park primary School, in Lucerne Avenue, were paid a visit by Angela Kecojevic, a senior librarian, creative writing tutor and author of Scareground.

Ms Kecojevic held an assembly with Key Stage 2 and answered their questions before leading the Year 4 classes in a creative writing session.

The children had to write a piece that would persuade people to visit their own scary fairgrounds.

Toby, 9, said about Ms Kecojevic: “She was fun to work with. It was great to write what we wanted about the scary fairground.”

Some of the children reportedly became very excited at lunchtime as they had their copies of Scareground signed by the author herself.

English lead at Bure Park Primary Mrs Colquhoun said: “We would like to thank Angela for her time. She was engaging, enthusiastic and inspired the children to want to carry on writing and maybe become authors themselves one day.

“It was a real privilege to have her with us.”

Coles Books in Bicester worked with the school to provide copies of Scareground in time for the children to get them signed on the day of the visit.

Ms Moon, Bure Park primary’s headteacher, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to meet and learn from a local children’s author.

“The children really enjoyed the Q and A session, and they are keen to read the book.”
