Police have been made aware of an incident in an Oxfordshire town centre which has been reported to the force by the public. 

In a statement issued at Sunday lunchtime, Thames Valley Police has said it is investigating video footage from Banbury town centre.

Those who reported the incident to police have been thanked for their assistance.

A spokesman said: "We are aware of video footage that is circulating on social media of an incident that occurred in Banbury town centre. 

"This incident is under investigation and we will provide updates when it is appropriate for us to do so. 

"Thank you to those who reported it to us."

Thames Valley Police has now confirmed a man, aged 22, has been arrested in a statement released to this newspaper on Sunday afternoon. 

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “We are aware of a video circulating on social media of a weapons incident at a barbers in Church Lane, Banbury, yesterday (Saturday, May 27).

“Officers are investigating and have arrested a 22-year-old man from Banbury on suspicion of aggravated burglary today. He remains in police custody.
