Firefighters rescued a man from an overturned car in the city centre of Oxford during the early morning hours of today, Friday, May 26. 

Crews cut used specialised equipment to cut free and rescue the man.

Residents of Cranham Street in Jericho were woken by a loud bang at about 3am.

Pictures show the car on its side surrounded by firefighters.

A neighbour said: "It was outside my bedroom window. I looked out and I saw this car on its side and flashing lights everywhere.

"It was about 3am. I got dressed and went down and the fire brigade were there cutting this man out of his car.

"I thought he had hit my car at first. It was like a dream."

Police and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted.
