An 18-year-old remains released on bail after a man in his 70s was hit by a car in an Oxfordshire town.

A collision between a red Nissan Pixo and a pedestrian took place at around 10.35pm on Friday, March 24.

The incident was on the A361 between Horsefair and Parsons Street.

The collision happened on the pedestrian crossing outside of the Thai Orchid restaurant in Banbury.

A man in his 70s from Warwickshire suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old woman from the Cherwell area, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was released on bail.

Thames Valley Police have confirmed the 18-year-old remains released on bail and the investigation is ongoing.

The man’s family were informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A 19-year-old woman also received minor injuries.

Lead investigating officer, Sergeant Edward Crofts of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, based at Bicester, said: “We are conducting an investigation following this incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

“My thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and one person has been arrested and bailed.

“We are appealing for witnesses and are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time of the incident and may have dash-cam footage of the incident or the moments leading up to the collision."
