A group of four men have appeared in court in connection with a fight in Bullingdon prison.

Appearing before Oxford Crown Court on Friday (March 24), Ross Cantwell, 36, Louie Withers, 34, and Brandon Hutchinson, 21, pleaded guilty to affray at the Bicester jail on February 13 last year.

Brandon Hutchinson and Connor Hutchinson, 22, admitted causing actual bodily harm to a prison officer in the same incident.

Connor Hutchinson also pleaded guilty to a separate affray, committed on the same date.

Richard Davies, representing Cantwell and Brandon Hutchinson, told Recorder John Bate-Williams that his clients had each pleaded guilty on a basis.

Brandon Hutchinson was said to accept kneeing and punching the guard but denied kicking him. There was a dispute about the behaviour of the officer, Mr Davies said.

Recorder Bate-Williams ordered pre-sentence reports for Cantwell and Withers, who were both on bail. The Hutchinsons were currently serving in Midlands prisons.

The sentencing was fixed for May 11. The case is expected to last an hour-and-a-half.

Affray is an offence that carries a maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment. Causing actual bodily harm has a higher maximum penalty of five years behind bars.
