Two people have died and 12 were injured in a serious crash involving eight vehicles on the M40.

It happened at around 8.15am this morning ( 22/1) between Stokenchurch and High Wycombe.

Two people sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital where they remain.

Ten people sustained minor injuries, a number of who were taken to hospital for additional checks.

Sadly, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s, died at the scene.

Their next of kin has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.

Thames Valley Police, fire crews, ambulance services and National Highways traffic officers attended with Thames Valley Air Ambulance landing on the motorway.

Both carriageways were closed but the northbound carriageway reopened at around 11.30am.

On Sunday afternoon police were carrying out collision investigation work.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Bettington, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the two people who died.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage, to please get in touch."
