A cheerleading squad brought home six major trophies after competing in a championship competition.

Bicester ECU cheerleaders represented Bicester over the weekend at the UKCA Winter Championships in Manchester.

The squad entered 9 teams, across all abilities and age groups – Teenies, Juniors and Seniors – and came home to Bicester with six major trophies, including two first places.

It was the first time most of the squad had competed, with the youngest team only training together since September this year.

Tash Whitaker, a parent of one of the cheerleaders, said: “We are the smallest team that competes, by a long way.

“We train after school, in term time only, in a hall with a low ceiling and a floor space approximately a sixth of the size of the competition floor.

“To go out there and perform the way they did against some really tough competition was amazing.

“They did Bicester proud.”

Bicester ECU was established in March 2013, and since then have won many national championship titles, earning their place at European competitions.

The higher-level squad teams have travelled to Croatia, Germany and the Netherlands to represent the UK.

A spokesperson for Bicester ECU said: “We are Bicester’s only exclusive cheerleading club, specialising in everything cheer.

“Our club is very inclusive and offers a team for every age group, gender and ability.

“We are also performing at the Porsche Christmas event at Bicester Heritage on Sunday.”
