Oxford medical trusts were caring for 51 coronavirus patients in total as of Wednesday, figures show.

Oxford University Hospitals Trust was taking care of 49 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Wednesday (November 23).

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospitals run by Oxford University hospitals Trust for Covid-19 by 8am on Wednesday was up from 34 on the same day the previous week.

There were 96 beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago in Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The figures also show that 71 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital in Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the week to November 21.

This was up from 22 in the previous seven days.

Oxford Health Trust saw far fewer patients in hospital for coronavirus, with two people admitted as of Wednesday (November 23).

The number of people being treated in Oxford Health trust hospitals for Covid-19 on Wednesday, November 23 was down from three on the same day the previous week.

There were 13 beds occupied by Covid-19 patients four weeks ago in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

The figures also show that one new Covid-19 patient was admitted to hospital in Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust in the week to November 21.

This was down from three in the previous seven days.

There was one more coronavirus death recorded over the latest weekly period in Cherwell.

A total of 310 people had died in the area when the UK coronavirus dashboard was updated on Thursday, November 24 – up from 309 on the week before.

They were among 25,479 deaths recorded across the southeast.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cherwell.

Across England there were 4,600 people in hospital with Covid as of November 23, with 117 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised nationally has decreased by 50 per cent in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 47 per cent.

A total of 172,941 deaths were recorded throughout England by Thursday, November 24, up from 172,376 last week.
