A snake was allegedly spotted being carried around a man’s neck in a Lidl store.

The strange sight was reported in the Bicester Chat community group on Facebook by a shopper who said they saw the snake in the Lauton Road store.

“Popped into Lidl for some shopping and saw a man in a fur coat. He had a real live snake around his neck! You can't take a dog in there but you can take a snake!!,” they wrote in the residents group.

Several other residents pointed out the serpent could be an emotional support animal, while others piped up the man “might have reunited with his ex” or was “looking for a ladder in the middle aisle”.

A spokesperson for Lidl said: “We’ve not been able to verify these reports, however, can confirm that for health and safety purposes we only allow assistance dogs in store.”
