Armed police were deployed to a park in the county after they received a report of a person with a gun.

Firearms officers scrambled to Spiceball Park in Banbury on Saturday afternoon (November 12).

Police were called after a member of the public believed they saw somebody carrying a gun in the park.

However, police were quickly able to confirm this was not the case and no offences took place.

Revealing details of the incident on social media, the force were able to see the lighter side of the false alarm.

They wrote: “To the lady who commented that we were having a lunchtime game of call of duty - that did make us chuckle thank you but not quite the case.”

One witness who saw the police at the scene said: “I saw those firearms officers getting prepared and was quite shocked to see them in Banbury - appreciate the work you all do to keep our community safe.”
