An Oxfordshire MP gave new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak an emotional hug outside Conservative Party HQ, after supporting him in both leadership races.

Yesterday, Mr Sunak succeed Liz Truss to become the country’s third Prime Minister this year after Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the race.

Victoria Prentis, Conservative MP for Banbury, has been a vocal supporter of Mr Sunak and called him a “good friend and colleague”.  

She told this newspaper: “The country is facing serious challenges.   Rishi Sunak demonstrated throughout his campaign that he is the right person to address those challenges.  He is a decent, capable, and serious man and I know will put in place the right policies for us in Oxfordshire.”
