An Oxfordshire MP has publicly announced her support for Rishi Sunak in the Tory leadership race.

Current PM Liz Truss resigned her position yesterday, after just 44 days in the job, becoming the country’s shortest running Prime Minister.

Banbury MP Victoria Prentis took to Twitter last night to vouch for the former chancellor.

She wrote: “Once again, I’m backing @RishiSunak to be Prime Minister.

“Rishi has what it takes to lead us through difficult times. We have seen him act in the nation's interest under pressure before. He understands we must beat inflation.

“I know he will bring our country and party together.”

Hopeful successors are canvasing MPs to gain the 100 votes needed to enter the leadership race.
