LIAM Gilbert is aware Oxford United Women’s opponents this weekend might be out for revenge.

The U’s leapfrogged Ipswich Town on the final day of last season, to finish second in Southern Premier Division.

The East Anglian side began the 2022/23 campaign with two defeats in the league, but have since won three on the bounce.

Gilbert told the United website: “They’ll be up for it and they’re a very good team with some very good players.

“They may want to get one over on us and that will be on their mind.

“As far as I’m concerned, that’s last season’s business and we are focused on a new set of targets with a new group of players.”

The U’s sit top of the table, the only unbeaten side in the league, as they welcome Ipswich to Court Place Farm tomorrow.

Last time out, United drew 1-1 at home to Watford, with Gilbert not entirely pleased with the performance.

He said: “We discussed the sloppy moments from last week with the group and they’ve been spot on, they’ve reacted in the way that we knew they would.

“If I’m honest there’s been a bit of disappointment that we weren’t at our best which is brilliant to see with the calibre of opposition, we were up against.”
