A person was found dead on train tracks near Oxford.

Emergency services were called to the line near Yarnton at 9.20am today, Monday, October 3.

Police attended and train services from Oxford to Banbury were also cancelled.

Paramedics treated the person but they were pronounced dead at the scene. 

British Transport police confirmed the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line near Yarnton at 9.20am today (October 3) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Great Western Railway said in a statement on its website: "Sadly, a person has been hit by a train near Oxford.

"We're sorry for any disruption this brings to your travel plans today."

Chiltern Railways conveyed passengers between Oxford and Banbury via Haddenham & Thame Parkway.

There were no trains running through the affected area while emergency services attended the scene.
