I have spent more time talking about what is going on at boardroom level than on the pitch this week after the AGM and the announcement that the structure of the board was changing.

It was a weird one because I think most fans have been waiting for the announcement for a year and a half, and yet when it happened it seemed to catch everyone by surprise!

I mean, it did happen at a scheduled AGM, which can be a bit dry, but I thought the way it was handled and the positivity around the announcement was first class.

It was something that needed careful timing and we – by which I mean all of us, including the new majority shareholders, myself and Tiger – had discussed for a very long time.

I remember having a meal with all of us there at a restaurant out near Bicester and we were all very honest about where we wanted the club to be, not just on the pitch but off it.

The new structure gives us, we all feel, the best possible chance of taking this whole club forward.

Now, I was warned when I sat down to write this that Oxford fans had been promised a journey before, and to avoid using that phrase.

But it’s so hard to avoid it when you have the road so clearly mapped out in front of you.

We now have a fantastic infrastructure in place.

There is a management board of seven people to report back from each department, there is a new chairman, a new CEO, we have Niall McWilliams able to focus on the stadium project, and we still have the backing, support, and financial know-how of a board who are determined to bring success to Oxford and who definitely have the resources to make that happen.

That is so exciting and today we will go to The Valley and hopefully show everyone that we are still in a good place on the playing side of things.

Results have been poor, nobody knows that more than me, my staff and the players.

And at three o’clock today, it is only that same group who can do anything about it.

If you are going, and if you make it through the train strikes, then be loud, be proud, and let’s see if we can celebrate a famous win to kick off a new chapter in just the right manner.

We resisted the temptation to play a game last weekend, preferring to let the players get some rest and have a bit of downtime because of the international break.

They then came back refreshed on Monday and we had a really sharp training session.

On Tuesday, we had a behind closed doors game where people got the minutes they needed, and then over the last couple of days we have welcomed back Ciaron Brown, Jodi Jones and James Golding as they returned from playing and training with their countries.

That experience will help those players develop, and the training ground has been a great place to work this week with their return, other players back on the grass after injury, and the buzz and excitement that has filtered to the dressing room from events in the boardroom.
