Major improvements have begun on footpaths around a town council’s headquarters.

A nearly £100,000 project is underway to improve pathways in Garth Park, Bicester, to make them accessible to all.

The current footpaths have potholes and bumps which can make navigating the park difficult for some users.

Construction has started and work is expected to be complete by the end of October.

During that time the main car park and some areas within the park will be out of use.

However, the majority of the park, as well as the council offices and cafe Savoir Fare will be open as usual.

The council has emphasised all the work will be carried out sympathetically to the conservation area and ensure existing greenery is protected.

Councillor Jason Slaymaker, chairman of the environment committee, said: “We would like to apologise for the disruption in Garth Park, but this major work is essential to improve the footpaths and make the entire park accessible to all users, including those with walking difficulties, wheelchair-users and those with buggies.

“The council has made a significant financial investment into the pathways as part of our longer-term plans to improve parks and access to facilities in the community.

“We believe once the work is complete it will benefit all users of the park.

“I would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience during this time.”
