An Oxfordshire MP has been handed a new ministerial position by Liz Truss, as the new Prime Minister revealed her Cabinet and ministers.

North Oxfordshire MP Victoria Prentis was previously Minister of State for Farming, Fisheries and Food and has now become a welfare minister in the Department for Work and Pensions.

During the Tory leadership race, Ms Prentis backed Rishi Sunak in his bid to become Prime Minister.

Writing on Twitter, she said: “I am honoured to have been appointed Minister of State @DWP. We know we will face challenges this winter. I look forward to working with the new Secretary of State @NorwichChloe and colleagues across government to ensure that we deliver support to those who need it.”

She also thanked the “dedicated officials and colleagues” at Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs for their “support” during the last two and half years.
