A fun time was had by all at a park opening event attended by councillors and local residents.

Councillors from Bicester Town Council attended the opening of the upgraded Spitfire Park, on Spitfire Close in Bicester on Tuesday, August 23.

The park was officially opened by Councillor Richard Mould and Linda Burn, a woman who lives in Spitfire Close and initially pushed for the park to be upgraded with a speech at a Bicester Town Council meeting.

The park was built by Kompan, a playground equipment company based in Milton Keynes, who completed the build on August 4, and children reportedly queued up to get in.

Mrs Burn said: “It was quite emotional, and I have received a lot of thanks from parents.

“The most popular item is the big round basket, and the spitfire plane where the children sit and pretend they are going on holiday.

“The park has You and Me swings and enclosed steps into a playhouse for the small children, and children with disabilities.

“Another park in Banbury Road has been equipped with facilities for children with disabilities, so upon the park upgrade plea being successful I asked the council if they would consider installing similar equipment in our park.”

Some of the equipment in the park is made from recycled fishing nets and textile clothing.

Mrs Burn added: “The park is proving to be a great success and people from different areas have commented on how great it is.”
