A popular shopping centre is shaking up its look with a series of upgrades to its existing retail units.

As part of the ongoing programme of enhancing the fabric, appearance and accommodation of Bicester Village, the Village operator, Value Retail management Limited, is upgrading some of the existing structures.

The application site comprises three neighbouring units – unit 7-8, unit 9A and 9B – and the building that houses all the units was erected as part of the Phase One area of the overall Bicester Village development.

The submitted application proposes the joining of units 7-8 and unit 9a.

The combined gross internal area of the existing ground floor retail units is 396 metres squared, and will increase by 5 metres squared following the joining of units.

Proposed changes to the units include the replacement of one small window and door on the east elevation, and alterations to the mall facing facade on the north with the demolition of the existing kiosk and installation of a new bay window.

The awnings on the north mall facing facade are to be replaced with new retractable awnings of the same length.

As part of the proposed works, the insulation on the entire elevation is to be stripped and replaced.

Value Retail wrote in their application: “The proposed changes to the guest facing elevations seeks to retain both the integrity and aesthetics of the wider Bicester Village context.”
