A new fundraiser has been appointed by a major charity to help raise their profile in the community.

Citizens Advice North Oxfordshire has appointed Steve Kingsford – who had previously worked as community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion in Buckinghamshire and is chairman of the Legion Branch in Chipping Norton – to be its new community fundraiser.

Mr Kingsford said: “I am delighted to have been given this great opportunity to support this important and relevant charity in the local community.

“Citizens Advice shares some of the same problems that the Royal British Legion had in fundraising, in as much as a lack of knowledge of the many services it provides and the fact it is a charity at all.

“In fact, each local Citizens Advice is a charity in its own right, and although it does get funding from local government and other sources, cuts in local government funding have had an impact.

“Increasing fundraising in the community is of vital importance in supporting the services we provide.

“With the recession beginning to affect nearly everybody, demand for its services will increase.

“We help with a range of problems including issues with housing, debt, benefits, employment, relationships and consumer rights.”
