McDonalds has responded after a litter picker raised concerns over the “appalling” amount of litter near its restaurant.

Jamie Jessett, who runs the voluntary group Bicester Litter Pickers, took photographs of the “horrible” amounts of litter located between the Tesco Superstore and McDonalds on Lakeview Drive in Bicester to document the issue.

Images shared by the 26-year old revealed an array of rubbish and dumped materials in the bushes around the outlets include Costa Coffee and McDonalds cups, plastic bags, crisp packets, glass bottles and concrete, amongst many other things.

Mr Jessett escribes the issue of littering as a “never ending battle” and feels as though it makes his volunteers think “what is even the point of doing it”.

A spokesperson from the fast food restaurant has said it has placed 15 additional bins around Tesco car park to help tackle littering in the surrounding area.

A McDonalds spokesperson said: “We take our responsibility around litter very seriously and for 40 years McDonald’s restaurant teams have carried out daily litter patrols in local communities.

“During these patrols, all types of litter is collected, not just packaging originating from our restaurants.

“We would encourage customers to inform our crew members of any litter hot spots and we will look to include it in our litter patrols wherever possible.”

Tesco has also been approached for comment.
