ALMOST 800 new jobs could be created in the Bicester area as an Oxfordshire company looks to move its headquarters close to the town.

Located on land north of the A41 and east of the M40 near Junction 9, a site dubbed Symmetry Park, Oxford North could be the new home of medical technology company Siemens Healthineers.

Siemens Healthineers has operated from its Eynsham facility since the early 1980s but it has outgrown the premises.

After looking across the UK for a new base, it selected this location near Bicester as the only site that can meet its 'operational requirements and timescales'.

The 31-hectare site, which would be accessed from the A41, includes a 55,500 metre square development and production facility, a building for use as an energy centre, loading bays, service yard, waste management area, external plant, parking for electric cars, landscaping and outdoor space for staff recreation/games area.

It would be around three-times larger than the one in Eynsham and if the plans are successful, they would bring a host of economic benefits to the area.

These include a capital investment of about £200m into the economy and around 1,350 jobs once operational – 792 new ones and 553 retained - of which 90 per cent are Oxfordshire residents.

By 2031, the investment by Siemens Healthineers is expected to add more than £60m to Gross Value Added to the Oxfordshire economy.

"As of late 2023, we are planning to house a new high-quality development and production facility at Symmetry Park, Oxford North, which is being developed by Tritax Symmetry.

"This will create additional job opportunities for the local community, whilst providing additional space for our magnet development and production that have outgrown the facilities located around 13 miles away in Eynsham, Oxfordshire.

"We will commence a phased transition from Eynsham to Oxford North with changeover anticipated to complete by 2030, subject to the variable demand for product lines developed in the facilities."

It is also hoped that the proposals would help increase spending in the surrounding area and provide a host of apprenticeship opportunities.

Tritax Symmetry has also developed Symmetry Park, Bicester off Morrell Way in the south of the town.
