THREE more coronavirus deaths have been recorded in the county in the latest 24-hour period, official figures reveal.

According to NHS England figures, a total of 444 people had died in hospital at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as of 5pm on Wednesday.

That was an increase of three compared to Tuesday, when there were 441.

It means there have been 15 deaths in the past week, down from 38 the previous week.

The victims were among 10,435 deaths recorded across the South East region.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: “Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure.”

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.

More than four in five people aged 70 and over in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and west Berkshire have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures also reveal.

NHS data shows 294,067 people had received their first jab by February 7, an increase of 28 per cent from January 31.

Of those, 189,522 were aged 70 or over – equating to 83 per cent of the population in that age group.
