SOME Oxfordshire schools will stay closed today after Boris Johnson's announcement last week.

The prime minister announced that all primary schools in London and some surrounding Tier 4 areas will not reopen as planned until January 18 due to the fast-spreading variant of Covid-19.

But where schools have reopened after the Christmas break, the PM told parents that they should send their children back to the classrooms.

Secondary schools in England will also have a staggered return, with those taking exams (Year 11s and 13s) going back on January 11 and other year groups the week after.

Here's a list of the schools that are closed and part open this week, according to Oxfordshire County Council:

  • John Henry Newman Academy, Littlemore, is partly open. The Queen's class and St Catherine’s class are closed 'until further notice'. Vulnerable children and children of key workers will be able to attend school as normal. Home learning can be accessed at www.jhnacademy.co.uk. St Johns class (Nursery) will be closed for today only.
  • Badgemore Primary School, Henley-on-Thames, is partly open. Years 3 and 4 will return on Wednesday, Years 5 and 6 will return on Thursday and Reception, Year 1 and 2 will return on January 11. Bubbles will also be 'closed' due to Covonavirus cases and self-isolation.
  • Nettlebed Community School, Henley-on-Thames, is closed. The school is 'unable to open due to lack of staff' but is running a 'remote learning programme'.
  • Fringford Church of England Primary School, Bicester, is partly open. From Tuesday until Friday the Kingfisher Class (Y5/6) bubble will be closed. Class will need to start the term with home learning. Children of key workers and vulnerable children will be able to attend school as normal.

Leader of the Vale of White Horse District council, Emily Smith, also said that Botley Primary School was closed.

She wrote on Twitter that primary schools run by Acer Trust in Oxfordshire will be teaching remotely until January 18.

The schools in Botley, Chalgrove, Stadhampton and Watlington will still be open to key worker children and pupils who are vulnerable.
